I was at first surprised to find so few notes in what was advertised as a "study Book of Mormon" -- but then I spent a happy and profitable few hours examining the notes as they are. I discovered no notes that I would consider editorial in the sense that they conveyed the editor's opinions *about* the text. Instead, I found notes that pointed me toward other points in the text where the same language was used. I found Royal Skousen's comparison of the standard text to the Original and Printer's manuscripts, in a convenient place, right in the Book of Mormon itself so that I don't have to constantly look at another publication when I am curious about accidental or deliberate changes.I also found some very helpful appendixes that discussed certain aspects of the text -- its chronology, the use of poetic devices, and so on.In short, I found a wonderfully clean copy of the Book of Mormon text to study, without clutter, without editorializing, without anyone telling me what I ought to be finding in the text. Now THAT's a Book of Mormon for study -- a "study Book of Mormon."

I received a review copy of the Maxwell Institute Study Edition of the Book of Mormon from Deseret Book, and I have loved every minute of using it.This edition is an update of Grant Hardy's previous edition published by the University of Illinois Press. Whereas the earlier version had to use a public domain edition of the Book of Mormon (the 1920, I believe), for this volume the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints licensed them to use the current 2013 edition of the text. In my opinion, this shows a large amount of confidence in the work of Grant Hardy and his publishers.The textual reformatting alone is worth the price of purchase. Some who have struggled with the double-columned chapter and verse organization of the traditional scriptures will find themselves able to read and process the doctrines, teachings, and history of the Book of Mormon more easily than before. Hardy also includes some of the incredible textual history done by Royal Skousen, providing potential alternate readings for some passages.As a final note, the twenty woodcut images done by Latter-day Saint artist Brian Kershisnik - unique to this volume - are a wonderful addition to the text. I wish there were more of them. They're a great edition to the growing corpus of Book of Mormon art and help readers visualize the story of the Book of Mormon in a different way than the traditionally-included art by Arnold Friburg.All in all, a wonderful volume, and a great addition to the shelf of any student of the Book of Mormon.

I find that I read the Book of Mormon much more effectively and find deeper meaning when I read in paragraph form. I have also found that teaching students who are unfamiliar with Latter-day Saint scripture when I can help them keep track of the narrative thread. The study edition succeeds on both accounts.

I have read and studied my way through the Book of Mormon dozens of time since joining the Church back in 1978. This new arrangement of the text provides a more pleasant approach to the familiar passages. It's still the same text but the flow is different and may allow for different inspiration to become apparent. The additional insights are helpful and are well worth reading and considering.

This is a great way to read and study the Book of Mormon. So interesting to read it without all the verse breaks. And there is a lot of interesting material included from those who have studied the original and printer's manuscript. None of the content has changed, just the format.

A must-have for any Latter-day Saint. Such a refreshing way to study the text of the Book of Mormon.

Would love to read it, but the font is too small.

Grant Hardy’s study edition a hugely good thing. Part of its genius is in paragraphing for clarity — something like JPS’s beautiful method in their ‘Tanakh: The Holy Scriptures’ edition of the Old Testament, except that Hardy retains the exact current wording.

I would give 5 stars but corner came damaged. Also just be aware they are pretty small (like half the size of a big book). Overall looks good though and I like the case that it comes in. Great set except a bit dissapointing that two of the book covers fearured here are not what I recvd. It was two diff covers. You'll be glad you did! (My intent was to review the text. It appears than I have reviewed the Solutions Manual which I have yet to open.)

Math is tough for me and I don't know about you but I have this smart physics friend that I rely on for any math stuff. I freaked out for this class when my physics friend had trouble helping me. When that happened I said maybe this was worth a shot and ordered it and with that he could help me again. He made Math make a lot more sense after ours chats. It seemed so much easier after we finally figured it out. Isn't math great that way. :pPROS:Some of the problems assigned were already in there, so that was nice.Useful if you learn by doing. We're just walking through as many of the problems as I can and it helps to have this to check our work.Really nice graphs, which are good for a visual person like me.CONS:Only has solutions to odd problems. (It does say that in the description though.)We usually had to reread the Strogatz section to figure out steps.The kindle version equations are different sizes. I asked for a refund and ordered the paperback.Overall, 4 stars for the paperback, lower for the kindle version messed up equations. Not perfect but way better off with it than without it.

This book is so useless. Only half of the problems are in it, and it skips over steps. If you're looking for answers, it probably there's a 50% chance have them. If you want explanations, you will not get them. Better to search on line for specific answers.

This was a life saver because my TA and professor super sucked. I would try to practice by solving other problems and go to office hours when I got stuck. Waste of time in the beginning becuase the professor and TA usually won't show me how to do the problem. He just said like, "I can't do everything for you." Partway into the semester I bought this thing, and they couldn't say that after I would bring in a solution from it. Then he would explain it to me. This solution manual is nowhere near complete.

It had the answers but there were no explanation or if there were explanation, it would be vague. Spent more time figuring out what the solution manual said than doing the hw

 I have a lot of cookbooks, anymore it takes a pretty special cookbook to get my heart thumping and inspires me to immediately take it in the kitchen and get to cooking. I have other pasta books, such as the joy of pasta, and usually they are maybe 25% actual pasta recipes, and the rest is sauce or soup or casseroles using the pasta. There is nothing wrong with that, but Making Artisan Pasta is a book about the pasta, about what ingredients to use, how to use them, how to make the pasta, form the pasta, and tons and tons of ideas and tips on making amazing pasta.The pictures are simply inspirational. From step by step photos of how to accomplish making the pasta, to beautiful and inspiring finished products. This book could be intimidating, working with dough and various ingredients and appliances and gadgets, making different shapes. But it's totally not, Aliza Green writes clear simple instructions that would make the most dough-frightened person feel enabled to make luscious pasta. Between her clear instructions and tips, and Steve Legato's amazingly clear instructional photos, this is a book to really give a person confidence and a can-do attitude.There are some pastas that simply call for special gadgets to make them, it's the nature of the pasta, but if you don't want to spend a penny on new fun equipment there are still plenty of pasta recipes you can easily make. The author gives several techniques on how to make pasta. She gives three ways of mixing (hand, stand mixer, food processor) and different ways to roll out the pasta- rolling pin, sheeter (hand cranked pasta machine) and the extruders. Through out the entire book there are variations so if you want to make ravioli you can buy a really cool ravioli pan thing, or she shows you how to simply put the filling on the bottom sheet and put the second sheet over and cut out the dough.The pasta I made was easy to work with and tasted delicious. I started simple, but can't wait to get into the variations like green pasta, or the one with the parsley leaves pressed in between the sheets.The book covers basic pastas, stuffed pasta, dumplings, pot stickers, gnocchi, pastas I haven't even heard of but can't wait to try! This is honestly a book that has me excited to get in the kitchen and start making pasta.

As a classically trained chef, there is nothing that brings me greater joy when in the kitchen than cooking from scratch, especially when baking fresh bread and making fresh pasta. Working with, kneading, and shaping dough is an art form onto itself and this book gives you plenty opportunity to do so, if you are willing to dive in.I bought this book four years ago as a back up to some fresh pasta recipes I had created on my own. As unique as the person who creates it, making fresh pasta is an imprint of the individual, since it allows you to be as adventurous and creative as your culinary imagination will allow. In beautiful and still vibrant photography, this book showcases the basics of pasta making, while in conjunction opening the window to experimentation, to add exotic and alternate ingredients to manipulate pasta shapes, colors, and sizes.I have tweaked a couple of the author's formulas for my own needs and preferences but I especially like her beginning pasta flour mix, as it allows for strong flavor and a pleasant texture when cooked al dente. Amateur home cooks will get good use out of the thorough and friendly instructions and illustrations, while seasoned professional chefs will discover new and exciting combination of ingredients and techniques to create new plate combinations.With that said, I recommend this book - simply be sure to have basic tools and ingredients such as a manual or automatic pasta machine, a ravioli stamp, strong flour or combination of flour, good quality eggs, nimble hands and fingers, a sharp chef's knife, and an open mind. With all seven of these things, your pasta making fun & adventure will be endless.TIP: If you are an amateur home cook or if you are making fresh pasta for the very first time, do not skip the opening chapters which explore the basics of pasta making, techniques of handing pasta dough, and the types of flour and other ingredients. This portion of the book is crucial in painting a thorough lesson that will alleviate mistakes and maximize successful results. Happy Cooking!

I dove right in the deep end: making pasta using only a bowl, rolling-pin, and knife. (Why? Because I recently had everything I own stolen.) Ms. Green's instructions worked perfectly, and I had a blast doing it. I'll post images shortly.Now that I have an Atlas pasta roller again, I'm all over these recipes like a cheap suit. No more store-bought wonton wrappers for me! The flavoured pastas are brilliant, and the utterly-gorgeous laminated parsley sheets are a show-stopper. I adjust amounts of semolina vs. Caputo "00" flour to give exactly the texture I want. Hand-formed udon in miso soup is ... ambrosial.More about the laminated parsley: It took me four 1/4 lb balls and about 20 minutes total to nail it (see user photos). The main thing is to completely trim the stalks off, or the sheets will tear. It's fun to experiment doing the laminating while still a couple thickness away from what you want: the leaves become enormous and abstract. Next time: edible flowers.Four stars only because her recipes constantly refer to other recipes, which is usually just inconvenient, but can be disastrous. Making spinach pasta? After blending the spinach with the eggs, you're told to follow the rest of the directions for red pepper pasta, but THOSE tell you to reduce the liquid on the stovetop. When the liquid started rising rather than reducing, my brain kicked in and I realized I was making a nice-looking spinach souffle. And yet the book had given me the confidence to just throw in another egg and make (excellent) spinach souffle pasta dough.

This book presents a good study of start to finish of how Cuba won its independence. I think of Vietnam as as country to compare to Cuba . Determined to win freedom no matter what the cost. Lying on 90 miles from the US mainland I wonder if the American powers to be wished we had kept Cuba.Get a copy & find out information that you prodidnt know. Another good job by Captivating History.

What you did not know about Cuba you will find out here. The country has a history of struggle and in some ways still struggle. Great read.

This book is an excellent overall history of how Cuba attained it's independence and the people who assisted in thatnquest. A must read!

This book was so detailed that after a bit I got bogged down. Although I will say the Cuban people have been though a lot.

The Cuban Revolution was a good beginning of why it happened.

It's a great lesson on the history of Cuba and the rise of Castro. Also points to repeated U.S. Foreign policy fiascos
