This is a simply told, factual book about Rosa Parks for young listeners. Children will learn a bit about Rosa's growing up, what she stood for, what she did and how she brought about change. Her story makes for an inspiring read. The illustrations beautifully enhance the story. All in all, another excellent addition to an excellent series. Rosa is a new book in the Little People, Big Dreams series. Aimed at younger readers, the messages are inspiring, the art is engaging, and the takeaways are on-point and delivered in an age-appropriate manner.I've reviewed and loved several of the earlier books in the series on my blog, and this one is no exception. The art by Marta Antelo is whimsical and appealing, with bright colors and bold graphics. There are two versions of this book. This one is for the youngest readers with much more simplified writing. The 'older' kid version was published in 2017, this 'first board book' version was released 5th Feb 2019. Both are from Quarto on their Frances Lincoln imprint.It's impressive that any author could make a book about racism, segregation, violence, hate, civil disobedience, and turmoil age appropriate for the youngest children and present it in such a fashion that it's both understandable and not damaging for the reader.Rosa is a lovely addition to the series about a worthwhile subject.Five stars.Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes

I have many books on tube amp and preamp design. From Reich's "Theory and Applications of Electron Tubes" 1940's EE text book, to hi-fi books published by Elektor to Richard Kuehnel's diatribes on the classic tube guitar amps.This book smokes them ALL. It is so easy to read, and accessible to anyone with high-school math skills, and technician level electronics knowledge. If you can read an electronics schematic, know how to wire/solder and can make stuff, then you can very quickly and practically apply the work in this book with great results.Biasing, Triode, Tetrode and Pentode operations are all well addressed, with practical graphical and analytical design techniques given, as well as clear, inarguable technically correct explanations of distortion, overdrive, harmonics, tone control and filtering.I can say this because I am an EE, with many years experience designing and building audio electronics both for guitar and hi-fi, and I could not have written a book on this subject better myself.This is AWESOME.

I have only made it to page 31, and I can't stop thinking about it! I have learned so much about amps, circuits, sounds, distortion, music, ... This book makes you tube crazy.This first 31 pages was about basic tube amp, various ways to bias the tube (I didn't understand what bias was before for example), how all of this plays into harmonic distortion, ...I have a computer engineering degree, so had courses in circuits many years ago. I wish they taught classes like circuits with a book like this. You are using things like Ohm's law to do something useful. Plus it collides with reality, in that this tells you how things work in the real world. Classes were never much good for that. I remember my professor saying that nobody used tubes, and that you could just chain a bunch of transistors together, yadda, yadda. Academic rubbish! That professor never even built anything real. Reading through this book you encounter a gold mine of collected experience and wisdom.I don't know if I'll actually build a tube amp -- I am mainly interested in using pre-built subcomponents to put in a larger amp project. So I wanted to understand amps better. This even helps think about solid state amp and audio electronic designs better.I also read the Grounding chapter which is available via PDF on his website. It blew me away. I never thought of designing ground layout like that before. The funny thing is people like me learn about basic circuit theory in school. Then the electricians (who wire houses) complain about people like me not understanding building code, real electrical work, creating hazards, thinking "black is ground", etc. And the tube amp folks complain about people like me point out I don't even know how ground works. haha!Merlin is blowing up my mind!

I have a degree in EE, and took courses in networks, filter theory, transistor theory, signals and systems, electromagnetics, etc. Although I have these theories and methods tucked neatly away, in college you are instructed in a dry textbook format, with almost no instruction how to apply this knowledge in a practical way. Such knowledge comes from having a job and gaining experience.I have mainly designed and build precision amplifier circuits for optical sensors using semiconductor op-amps. As I now approach retirement I recently became interested in the design of vacuum tube amplifiers for guitars. I'll start out by saying this is the finest book on tube amplifier design I've seen, and is a goldmine for electronic designers in general. First, the Author presents vacuum tube design and theory in a thorough and lucid way. I read a few other books before this one, and this book answers all of the lingering questions I had from the previous books. Then the Author presents specifically how tube guitar amplifiers are designed, what makes them sound the way they do, what the limitations are, etc. Then he goes on to provide a whole grab bag of tricks used by veteran designers in the old vintage amplifiers.I'm ready to start designing and building my first valve amplifier, purely for the fun of it. This is the best book on the subject I have seen. It is easily worth the money regardless of your level of knowledge at the start. A textbook with 1/4 the information will cost you 4x more than this. He'll teach you everything you need to get started, and give you a real appreciation of how real EEs design stuff. And remember: "You can't spell Geek without a Double-E"

About the Author

Courtney and Donnell Baldwin are a married couple living in Midtown Manhattan. Following their wedding in 2012, both became interested in wardrobe styling for grooms after realizing the lack of attention to detail in the planning and execution of grooms wedding day attire. Mixing Donnell's fifteen-year career in the fashion industry (primarily with Ralph Lauren and as a menswear stylist and styling editor) with Courtney's fourteen-year experience as an engineer and owner's representative in the construction industry, Mr. Baldwin Style was born. As a New York City based company, Mr. Baldwin Style focuses on wardrobe styling and image consulting for the modern groom and gentleman, as well as photo shoot production. My Fiance is very involved in our wedding plans. He's not the type to let me just decide and run with it. Then I stumbled upon this book on Instagram and I knew I had to purchase it for him. I gave it to him yesterday for Valentines day and he literally can not put the book down.Thank you for not only creating a book with amazing style and tips for grooms to be; but also helping the very involved groom feel special as well.

This is much more than a simple book of tuxedo inspiration. While the glossy pages, beautiful photography and impeccable style scream coffee table book, this is also your guide-on-the-side for impeccable styling for the groom and his groomsmen. You'll find tips on creating a unified look for your wedding day, complimenting the brides look, body type considerations and how to get every look even if you're on a budget.I went through it with my man and it was super fun to pick out styles together and talk about what would look good on him and how it would fit the overall look of our wedding. Each chapter is based on a theme and showcases 2-5 looks. High-quality pictures and portraits give you an idea of what is possible. It was a great conversation starter and offered good tips for getting and personalizing each look.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!! Finally there is a book to help out us brothas on that special day! There is such a need for this type of book! I'm not getting married anytime soon, but I know one thing, after reading Grooms, I totally want Mr. Baldwin Style to be my stylist when I tie the knot! This book is beautiful and beautifully written; truly inspiring! Donnell and Courtney are such an amazing team! Their passion shines through every page! What an AMAZING book! Such a great tool for wedding planners, brides, and grooms. It is so nice to see that grooms have a GREAT resource finally! This book is must have for any wedding planner to share with her couples! It is a great gift to give to newly engaged couples. The photos are captivating! It has great style advice for the groom who needs a little guidance, or the groom who wants to enhance his style. Being an event planner before for a five-star hotel, there was always so many resources for brides. I would have loved to have had this book in our wedding room at our property. I look forward to utilizing this book one day when I get married.
