I travel to Buenos Aires a lot(>50 times). I still use this map. I frequently play host to friends and family, always recommend this map, and have found that when people show up with any of the others they usually end up borrowing my Nat Geo map after a few days.It is printed on a thin sheet of durable plastic (very strong & flexible) - it can be folded and refolded without cracking or worry about getting wet. I frequently use a Sharpie to make notes, highlight locations and generally help friend plan their day - then later you can use nail polish remover to clean it up and start over.The front is a detailed map of the city core complete with subway lines, parks, hotels, and relevant places of interest. It does not list all of the myriad interests but includes most must-see venues. Street names are clearly printed, and major streets are shown in larger scale and type. The back has simplified overview maps of the subway system (get an understanding of how the various lines interconnect) and a big-picture overview of the city and it's outlying districts. Keep in mind - the city is huge - this map presents areas you are most likely to visit with the exception of Palermo Viejo.Also on the back is a summary narrative of historical and suggested Points of Interest; the Information section lists emergency contacts and helpful hints.I also suggest you consider Time Out Buenos Aires. It is well written, kept current, and relevant.
This is not a complete map of the city. I ordered it for my daughter who will be studying there. The area she will be living in, right in the city, is completely cut off/not included in the map. Interestingly enough, right near a National Geographic building so they cut themselves off the map as well, assuming it is the same company. The area around the zoo is not included at well. The only reason I kept it was due to the low cost and her feeling it might be useful for the area in which her school is located.
Although some of the pricing and address information on this edition of the Nat Geo map of Buenos Aires is out of date, this is still a much better hard copy map to work with than the free maps you get from hotels or gift shops -- those are mostly ways to sell advertising. This map is clear, easy to read, and covers the area relevant for tourist visits. Some of the many points of interest are listed, but some are not, so be sure to also have a guidebook and/or smartphone map close to hand, as well. The transportation bible for the city is a booklet called the Guia 'T' which lists all the bus routes and has a map grid system that let's you get as detailed or as general as needed. Buy it from news stands (Diarios). The Nat Geo map is good for getting oriented but the Guia T gets down to the nitty gritty.
