I was lucky to receive an advance copy of this book before publication. It came to me in a time in my life of making peace with some challenging transitions as a single mother of two young children. As I read through the book, I kept pausing in awe, thinking, "umm, wow, Michelle is just like me...she has struggled in the exact same ways I have struggled in life." That is the beauty of this book--it is totally relatable and connects us to the struggles of being a parent living an over-scheduled, frantic, and guilt-ridden life.On top of breathing a big sigh of relief, (oh, thank goodness, I'm not alone in struggling with being calm and present always with my kids), Michelle's book also is filled with hopeful, practical, and easy-to-implement wisdom. Each chapter is coupled with an exercise that helps you understand the basic premise of meditation and mindfulness and start cultivating your own practices. These exercises have helped me relinquish the need to be in control and instead lean into discomfort, ultimately finding peace. I've learned from Michelle's book that as I begin to develop a practice of deep forgiveness and compassion, I can learn to love myself as a perfectly, imperfect human being. Hooray! Michelle's gives you permission to be a "good enough" parent! Detroit-based auto writer Lindsay Brooke has been covering automotive and motorcycle technology and history for more than thirty years. He is editor in chief of Automotive Engineering magazine, published by the SAE. A longtime British motorcycle enthusiast, historian, and owner of multiple Triumphs, Brooke has authored two other Triumph titles for Motorbooks. He and David Gaylin are widely acknowledged as experts on Triumph’s American story.Growing up in Baltimore near the Triumph Corporation, David Gaylin’s first bike was a 1970 Bonneville. After TriCor closed in 1975, he was able to acquire truckloads of internal memoranda, brochures, photos, manuals, and service bulletins. I am revising my previous 3-star review after consideration. My first bike was a '69 Bonneville T120 that I bought new that year and I currently ride a 2015 Triumph Rocket III Touring. I ordered this book after reading the very positive reviews but I am a slightly disappointed. It's not that it's a bad book. It's just that I have Triumph books that are just as good if not better although this book is the most up-to-date. (The most disappointing Triumph book I have bought is Triumph Motorcycles: The Art of the Motorcycle which is basically just an over-priced collection of sales brochures. I cannot recommend that book at all.)On the plus side, the way the chapters are organized in Triumph Motorcycles in America encourages me to just choose chapters randomly rather than reading it from cover to cover which I consider to be a positive. I thought a big advantage of a new Triumph book would be more up-to-date information but, surprising, there is very little of that and, in fact, some older Triumph books that I have cover much more of the modern Triumphs. I was also disappointed that the book hardly mentioned the Rocket III at all. In fact, it's only mentioned once in the text for a picture of a custom Rocket III Roadster and a minor mention of it in the general text - only a line or two. If it wasn't for that picture, someone reading the book who didn't know anything about Triumphs might never even know that the Rocket existed even though the story of it's development probably deserved a chapter of its own. After all, it's the biggest Triumph of all time with the largest production motorcycle in the world and it's a torque monster. It surely seems worthy of more than a slight mention.The reason I upgraded my review is that when I first posted it, I had skimmed over the book but completely read sections that caught my interest. Since then, I have read the entire book and I now think it deserves a higher rating although I'm not sure I would choose it over other Triumph books in my collection. It did cover the subject of it's title more thoroughly than other Trumph books, however.

Like other reviewers that have read several books about the history of triumph motorcycles, this is the one that I enjoyed most. Other books may have better photography or provide more detail about the bikes themselves but this is the one that I felt actually connected me with the people, places, and time that made up the first US Triumph 'invasion'. Other books have made me lust after vintage bikes, but this one made me wish that I could have lived in a different era.

Pleasantly surprised-in addition to the usual description of models there are chapters on all aspects of the Triumph world and Triumph people in America. As good or better than other Triumph books, very readable.

..When I originally read the book, and couldn't put it down. I have seen the author in Creation vs. Evolution debates on Youtube and like his approach. Since I intentionally left the book behind in Communist China, it was time to buy another one. I told one Chinese girl to start rethinking Darwinism because it's false. This book shows how laughable the theory is.

I finished reading this book just before spending two weeks in Capetown, South Africa where I worked with university students (mostly)about the issues of science and the Christian faith. Needless to say, the "creation vs. evolution" controversy was a hot topic. Although I had spent a great deal of time reading in this area, I found this book to be one of the clearest introductory works on the subject. It is unabashedly Christian and theistic in its perspective, but it helps ask some of the central questions. I feel it would be an excellent work for the non-technical reader. As a note, I just am sending 5 more copies of this book to South Africa since the students have also found it an excellent general work

I have just read several of Phillip E. Johnson's books on creationism and found some of them interesting. This book, however, is problematic. This book is intended as a book for high school students and is designed to counter biology class presentations on evolution. Sadly, it is shallow and biased, it presents incomplete and unfair arguments against evolution. It presents thoroughly discredited arguments just as if they were not fraught with problems. It saddens me to think of young minds reading this without having oppurtunity to see the complete picture. Don't get me wrong, there are intellectually honest, interesting presentations of creationism out there (Michael Behe's Darwin's Black Box, for example), this book just isn't one of them.

Definitely not an “easy to understand guide” to read book!

Obliviously, most of the negative reviewers didn't even read this book. The main focus of this brief book is to give a quick introduction to philosophical, scientific and theological arguments against the Evolution. What most of the negative reviewers are missing is his main point: Evolution as asserted by Dawkins and other fanatics, means the universe and all life in it came by about by chance - it doesn't mean you disagree with darwin's finches or other microevolution.He brings up cases of logical, particularly from microbiologists - objections to evolution that are shot down by 'fanatics' and just as illogical as fundmentalist creationists. For example a 15 year boy in denver objected to NOVA special on evolution being shown in his school. The press portrayed him as a fanatic, but his objection was that the flaws in the show, such as 'the first form of life was a bacteria that fed off of other bacteria' (!).In short, this isn't the either or argument that the press makes it out to be - evolution cannot and has not explained all aspects of life -and for example Richard Dawkin's reductionist theories that we are just walking bits of DNA meant to pass on DNA passes the line from science to fanatical dogma

This book is not meant to be an in-depth, complete scientific argument against Darwinism and the like. It is instead an introduction to 1) the problems with the macroevolution argument as science (it is, rather, a philosophy), and 2) exposing the type of illogical argument a person will run into from the macroevolution crowd. It is written for the high school student and typical, every-day, non-scientificly-minded parents. An introduction to this topic. As such, I wouldn't expect the information presented to be covered so thoroughly as some of the reviewers apparently expected. For the audience and reasons he wrote this book, Phillip Johnson did an outstanding, 5-star job. I enjoyed the book, which was easy enough to read, well-sited, and fair-minded. I am now prepared and looking forward to going on to more thorough books addressing these issues at an even deeper level.

The content of the book is definitely interesting. Some of the techniques I didn't even know existed even though I'm exposed to western and Asian styles of archery. Even though I managed to get a copy of the original Arabic manuscript, and I speak Arabic at native level, still I find the translation great, even easier to understand on few occasions. The photos and diagrams are all great contribution added by the editor and translator as they don't exist in the manuscript.Would have given the book 5-star except for the fact that the physical aspects of the book are depressingly awful. First, it's not printed by a press, but copied by home-quality copier. To make matters worse, the source book they copied from is apparently a used book, so on some pages you find scribbles on the margins!My advice is: it's not worth paying for this book if you're not going to receive a professional quality book. If you are interested in the content, the book is available for free on the internet. Just go to archerylibrary do t co m and read it for free. If you prefer it in physical form, print it on your home printer, you'd get the same quality as this book anyway. And to be clear I'm not paid to promote that website, and not affiliated with it in any kind, I just found it on Google.

The one real negative, which anyone who owns other Kessinger Publishing books should come to expect, is that the text is a copy from either the original source, or as is the case here, from a translation published in 1940 or 1945 (not sure which). Some of these books have better quality print than others, and I would say this book is overall very good.The worst quality is probably the images you can't really see on p41 showing the Turkish bow & siper, and a demonstration of the "63" lock, and again on p97 showing knots, and the image of bows is about 45% visible. The Arabic finger reckoning image and the "6-different draws (locks) are great. The rest of the text is quite clear. Here is an interesting quote:On p26 it says, "The archer can determine the weight of his bow in several ways. One way is to take his bow, brace it, grasp the grip with his left hand, hold the string with the index, middle, and ring finger of his right hand, and then draw the string up to the elbow of the left arm. Next, release the ring finger and continue to draw until the full length of the arrow is drawn. If he can hold the drawn bow without shaking or trembling or straining, this will be the limit of his own draw and the one fit for aiming and shooting. The contents of the book are precise and as to be expected, but there are two plates within the book that are indecipherable, as if someone took a poor photocopy of the original book from University of Michigan and reprinted it. It is pretty disappointing but I'm happy to have the book.

A nicely bound (better quality paperback cover and adhesive binding) piece of crap! This publisher has fully demonstrated that they care nothing of the consumer's interest or needs. Rather; what concerns are carried forth with the manner of content quality is the publisher's singular intent to foist a low level crime upon it's purchasers by emptying their wallet of a few dollards. What good is an instructional manuscript if the images referenced therein are completely uncomprehendable and unuseable as printed (every image is 98% blacked out).DO NOT BUY FROM THIS PUBLISHER! You will be completely disappointed in the product.

This book as a lot of detail about Arabic archery, from philosophy, to technique, to equipment. Probably the foundation book for any effort to understand the role of archery in Arab culture up to this time. Very nice.

I love archery

The book is a great insight into the various uses of the bow, and I found it fascinating. I also teach kids how to shoot archery and the history behind bows, so this book was a great addition to my class material. Also if you are looing for a great mousepad this book is fantastic at that too.

I was at first surprised to find so few notes in what was advertised as a "study Book of Mormon" -- but then I spent a happy and profitable few hours examining the notes as they are. I discovered no notes that I would consider editorial in the sense that they conveyed the editor's opinions *about* the text. Instead, I found notes that pointed me toward other points in the text where the same language was used. I found Royal Skousen's comparison of the standard text to the Original and Printer's manuscripts, in a convenient place, right in the Book of Mormon itself so that I don't have to constantly look at another publication when I am curious about accidental or deliberate changes.I also found some very helpful appendixes that discussed certain aspects of the text -- its chronology, the use of poetic devices, and so on.In short, I found a wonderfully clean copy of the Book of Mormon text to study, without clutter, without editorializing, without anyone telling me what I ought to be finding in the text. Now THAT's a Book of Mormon for study -- a "study Book of Mormon."

I received a review copy of the Maxwell Institute Study Edition of the Book of Mormon from Deseret Book, and I have loved every minute of using it.This edition is an update of Grant Hardy's previous edition published by the University of Illinois Press. Whereas the earlier version had to use a public domain edition of the Book of Mormon (the 1920, I believe), for this volume the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints licensed them to use the current 2013 edition of the text. In my opinion, this shows a large amount of confidence in the work of Grant Hardy and his publishers.The textual reformatting alone is worth the price of purchase. Some who have struggled with the double-columned chapter and verse organization of the traditional scriptures will find themselves able to read and process the doctrines, teachings, and history of the Book of Mormon more easily than before. Hardy also includes some of the incredible textual history done by Royal Skousen, providing potential alternate readings for some passages.As a final note, the twenty woodcut images done by Latter-day Saint artist Brian Kershisnik - unique to this volume - are a wonderful addition to the text. I wish there were more of them. They're a great edition to the growing corpus of Book of Mormon art and help readers visualize the story of the Book of Mormon in a different way than the traditionally-included art by Arnold Friburg.All in all, a wonderful volume, and a great addition to the shelf of any student of the Book of Mormon.

I find that I read the Book of Mormon much more effectively and find deeper meaning when I read in paragraph form. I have also found that teaching students who are unfamiliar with Latter-day Saint scripture when I can help them keep track of the narrative thread. The study edition succeeds on both accounts.

I have read and studied my way through the Book of Mormon dozens of time since joining the Church back in 1978. This new arrangement of the text provides a more pleasant approach to the familiar passages. It's still the same text but the flow is different and may allow for different inspiration to become apparent. The additional insights are helpful and are well worth reading and considering.

This is a great way to read and study the Book of Mormon. So interesting to read it without all the verse breaks. And there is a lot of interesting material included from those who have studied the original and printer's manuscript. None of the content has changed, just the format.

A must-have for any Latter-day Saint. Such a refreshing way to study the text of the Book of Mormon.

Would love to read it, but the font is too small.

Grant Hardy’s study edition a hugely good thing. Part of its genius is in paragraphing for clarity — something like JPS’s beautiful method in their ‘Tanakh: The Holy Scriptures’ edition of the Old Testament, except that Hardy retains the exact current wording.
