Major editing and grammatical errors throughout (for instance, "ensure" vs. "assure", reporting of numbers that are off by a factor of 1000,) and serious problems with sentence construction.Any grader of high school student papers will be familiar with the technique of paraphrasing a simple cut-and-paste of information freely available on the Internet with the periodic insertion of "[party] maintains that [chunk of website text here.]" This type of information constitutes the majority of the books' contents. Major an difficult technical concepts (such as reactive voltage, or operational considerations) are related / introduced but not explained. Further, a 2007 edition is necessarily seriously outdated, as major structural reforms throughout the industry since the energy policy act of 2005 are far further advanced than they were at the time of writing of the book.Chapters are poorly organized, sometimes mutually redundant, and offer no particular insight into the industry.

I think that it's a very good book educating in the energy management field. Occasionally the author write in first person so that he is making reference about his own and his/her colleagues experiences.

Good

Denise has done a great job covering the basics of the electric power industry. It does need to be updated with some of the new initiatives, such as AMI and smart metering. I would also recommend a brief overview of the challenges the industry has faced with cyber security. These would be great topics to add for an update.

I would be very interested in this book since I spent a 45 year career working in the subject industry. However, this book is not essential as I am now retired. Therefore, if its not available with the convenience and cost saving of a Kindle version, I have no interest in it.

The author does a good job in relaying how US's electrical utilities work and how the deregulation and changing market affects the industry. So far this is the most comprehensive book I have found on the topic to date. However the text could stand to be reworked to become more readable as the author almost struggles to express the technology in layman's terms. The book also suffers from being divided into three parts. It results in some annoying repetition and makes it difficult to use the book as a reference. The author, however, has included a very informative appendix explaining the technical terms plus an appendix with names and addresses of resources. That alone makes the book invaluable for somebody getting into the field.

This is actually a very good book. I've been an electrician in the Navy for about 9 years. After recently getting hired on by a company that is right in the middle of the "deregulation" situation in California. I've been entered into a pretty intensive training program, where we are required to learn about the enire process. In fact it's a pretty dynamic atmosphere, considering what's going on here in Cali. Well if you've never seen an inkling of this information, it's quite a lot to grab at first.This book, does a very good job of laying down industry terms, and explaining them where even someone with no idea of what's going on will have a pretty good picture after completing the book. Another good note to add is that sometimes the topic can have some dry spells, but the book does a good job of keeping the reader awake and interested. The author is well educated and has a good insight on what could become the future of the industry. I recieved the book through my company and in fact it is required reading for us. All in all, I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in, or is new and up and coming in the industry.

Unfortunately, the book starts off with too many simple editing errors and that made me fearful of the accuracy of the remaining text. I returned the book. For example, page 4 (this is the second page of the book after the preface) refers to year 2003 utility expense data listed in a table on the opposite page. However, the table has no data for 2003. The author also confuses millions of dollars with billions of dollars when walking the reader through major utility expenses in this section of the book. That's a big editing oversight in the initial pages. I think this could be a very useful book for someone like myself trying to get an understanding of the electric power industry, but it needs tightening up.

From the beginning of STILL FOOLIN' EM, I knew I'd bought the right version - an audio-book. After listening to Billy Crystal read his book before a live audience, I knew nothing could top the living laugh track. Unfortunately, only SOME chapters are read aloud before real human beings who laugh and energize Mr. Crystal's perfect comic timing. I now wish that EVERY chapter had his perfect timing and a living laugh track. Too bad. Nevertheless, I recommend buying the audio-book over a Kindle version or a hard copy. Billy Crystal is too funny when he is performing; I can't imagine reading it in print could even come close!

I thought I only had a few things in common with Mr. Crystal: birth month, daughter, grandchildren, dead parents, growing up watching Johnny (always smile when I get on the Slaussen), love of Soap and When Harry, and lastly, a dry sense of humor. None of it matters, this book breaks life down to poignant moments with a lot of humor in between that gets him from birthday to birthday. Something many can relate to. The last few chapters reminded me how much our gallows humor helped my husband and I face his death together, hand-in-hand, through smiles and tears... Just like Billy and Janice Crystal will do. Maybe we all have more in common than we think. Thank you for sharing your life and humor and for helping me see my own life with humor and poignancy in retrospective. I couldnt stop reading your stories, and couldnt stop smiling. Great work. Great read. Great fun. Great story. Great life. Thank you!

My book club and I read this book as part of our 2016 challenge to read an autobiography. At first glance I was not sure what I would think about it. I have never been a huge fan of Billy Crystal, but there are a few films he is in that I have enjoyed over the years. His comedy style has always been a little off for my taste. I have always been more of a Jerry Seinfeld or Steve Martin fan (sorry Billy!)The novel itself is wonderfully executed. The story alternates between his thoughts on aging as he is now 65 and his life story. I found it interesting to learn so many facts about his role in the film industry. On the other hand his life experiences involving baseball and his many friendships with baseball legends was less interesting but not at all less of an experience as a reader. I am not a sports fan so it was hard for me to identify with his passion for it.The voice of the novel was amazing. Billy's true voice spoke off the pages to me the entire time. Rarely have I read an autobiography where I felt so convinced that I was having an intimate conversation with the writer. That is great writing and execution. For interest and likability I would rate it a solid 3 stars. For execution and voice I am adding a star for a rating of 4 stars.On a side note I am disappointed I didn't order this on Audio CD as I just saw that it won 2 awards for best audiobook. I listen to audiobooks all the time and found it somewhat irritating that I didn't think to get it on audio. The additional plus would have been the performance of Billy reading the book. Live and learn.

I enjoy how Crystal tells a story, and I certainly can appreciate his background and upbringing (being Jewish, and raised in Los Angeles in the '50's and '60's...I'm two years younger than Crystal). The individual stories were great. However....while one realizes that an autobiography is ultimately a lot of 'me, me, me', it became annoying that every person Crystal met during his career became a close friend, and so many of the were very prominent, recognizable celebrities (maybe I'm just jealous?), it just wore me down, and became annoying. While he certainly had a few 'struggles' in life, I didn't get a real sense that they were as impactful or appreciated by him as much as he tried to lead us to believe. His life was beyond perfect, with almost nothing but success. His 'struggles', luckily for him, seemed more like just normal life experiences. It was difficult finding anything sympathetic in his life. That certainly doesn't diminish the successes, which were based on his talent and skills. But I couldn't find any empathy. It's not like he approached it as deserved, or taken for granted...it was just a lot of repetitive references and statements. I couldn't feel sorry for those times he was away from family and wife. Again, it was enjoyable...to a point. A great talent, tremendous luck, and certainly a good, talented, person. But, in my view, there was far too much 'me me me', and too many 'best of friends'. About 2/3's through the book, I just wanted it to be over.

I tried using this as a bass tablature but, the space between staffs were too narrow I couldn't really fit all of the strum symbols. It was an uncomfortable struggle having to write and draw abnormally small constantly. Geez, having more staffs don't exactly help if it's hard to sight read the extra small writing...ya know? 4 Stars for the idea and the notes on page 0. I'll give this to a friend as a gift.

Just what I needed to write down riff ideas. It's perfect like that. If you plan on writing a song with it, there is not much room in between the staff sections to note chords changes and write lyrics.

Cheap and very useful. Every inch of every page, back and front, is used for blank tab lines. It'll be years before mine is full.

The author is no solar cheerleader, though: Sivaram sees daunting obstacles to solar's growth and offers a detailed set of solutions spanning financial innovation, technology development, and policy reform, informed by a decade of cutting-edge research and direct experience in the field.Sivaram is not afraid to challenge current paradigms, particularly regarding the prospects for existing silicon-based photovoltaics and lithium-ion batteries and the policies driving their deployment. On this front, Sivaram throws down the gauntlet, issuing a direct challenge to Elon Musk, the solar investment tax credit, renewable portfolio standards, and other assumptions – inviting a response from the solar and battery industries.Given the scope and the nature of Sivaram’s arguments, informed readers may identify topics that would benefit from additional analysis and discussion. I've already posted a comment in response to one of the critical reviews, and it's almost as long as this review. I encourage anyone interested in more detail to also look there.This book covers a lot of different subjects, but they all relate to the core subject, so that's a plus. The one reservation I do have is that I simply think Sivaram's timetable for the growth of solar is too conservative, and his assessment too pessimistic. What he thinks may take 80 years, I think may happen in 30, or less. His recommendations seem to make very good sense, although they get into a lot more detail in politics and economics than I understand. For that reason, I could not put this forth as an explicit criticism, or there might have been four stars.I'm finding it a difficult call to decide how serious the obstacles are that Sivaram cites. He says that innovation needs to accelerate in three distinct areas, and he's probably right. But the fact that something hasn't happened yet doesn't necessarily mean it's not on the way to happening. In particular, it may not be the future development of solar that is at risk, but US leadership in this area—lamentable if true, but not as bad as it not happening at all.I still don't really understand why Sivaram doesn't think energy can be totally based on renewable sources. Yes, I know about the Duck Curve and all that, and storage needs to improve radically. But it looks as if prospects for that are good. It's of crucial importance that there are several really good ways to address the intermittency problem. After reading the book, I still just don't get why a certain portion of fossil and/or nuclear needs to be retained, just because of intermittency. Between hydro, HVDC long-distance grids, demand management via smart grids, pumped storage, advanced batteries, supercapacitors, V2G, a bit of geothermal and hydrogen in places, and probably a few other things I can't think of right now, it seems we have a wealth of options without hanging onto the past, or going to molten salt reactors or fusion (although, if they happen, great, join the party, which is most assuredly NOT over).In particular, I do think Sivaram exaggerates the problem of seasonal variation. If you think in terms of panels that track the Sun in both directions, there's as much sunlight available at high latitudes as there is at the Equator, on average. it's just that it varies seasonally. But when is all the heavy demand from air conditioning? In the summer months, just when the North has long days. There is plenty of flexibility in working this all out, though it will depend heavily on long-distance HVDC grids. (BTW I thought this book's treatment of the DC-vs-AC issue was, well, a ray of sunlight in the darkness, so kudos for that.)

Perfect Product! This is a minimalists dream. Its very compact and seals perfectly. None of the unnecessary bells and whistles that make a sealer big and bulky. Also space saving !

This is an awful book. It takes the most roundabout approach to everything it says and really says almost nothing in almost 400 pages. If this isn't required reading, don't buy this book. Malnig doesn't know how to write and neither can any of the authors who are featured in the book. Look somewhere else!

This edited volume is terrific for specialists, students, and general public interested in television blockbusters like Dancing with the Stars. I am going to assign it for my classes in the history of social and popular dance.
