This little known law has some terrible consequences for Americans at home and abroad and also for the world.If you are an American abroad and are looking for what FATCA means for you personally, this is not the book for you. Instead Morris turns his attention to how this law is extraterritorial - how it imposes American law on other countries (though there is every indication that there will be significant blowback on the US) with ugly, expensive consequences for all countries. This essay is for all those who think that American law can't possible impact them since they are not Americans. Alas, they will soon learn otherwise.
"FATCA and the New Birth of American Empire†is brief, clear, forceful and very useful as it focusses on the effects on the Rest Of Humanity (ie beyond beleaguered 'US Persons', aka USPs, around the world). It would be wonderful if the publisher/author could get versions out there in Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, French, Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Cantonese, Mandarin, Bahasa Indonesia, Yoruba, Igbo, Akan, Zulu, Xhosa, Swahili, Turkish, Arabic, Russian, Polish, Greek, Japanese, Korean, and dozens of other languages. The NON-English speaking world needs a chance to learn something of what FATCA will mean before they are hit by it.
