I purchased this book. The original was printed in color, an important feature when playing the games described. The one I got was in black, grey and white. I finally decided to just buy a new one.

OK, I must confess, this review is really based on the old set of (two) volumes, which i purchased around 1985. Rarely did I get so much value for money. I must have spent dozens of evenings in delight reading these volumes, which contain both serious math and scores of jokes on almost every page. And every two years or so I find myself rereading parts of it, chuckling at the pictures and puns once again.And how satisfying, to be able to stun some friends one afternoon by beating them consistently at dots and boxes, because I happened to remember the theory behind the game. And how did I baffle them once when I solved a (supposedly very tough) nim-like problem in a newspaper in an instant, because I could remember Sprague-Grundy theory.I can't recommend these splendid volumes enough.They have given me countless hours of joy.

Surely, no other books on this subject can be better than this series by Berlekamp and Conway, both are masters of the field! There is no doubt to this. But if someone, like a high school math teacher would like to experience the same thrills but at an elementary level, what is better than Mathematical Games and Pastimes by Domoryad, one of The Popular Lectures in Mathematics Vol. 10. Similar entertainment and taste but more accessible. ISBN B0006AYRNK

This book is dazzling. It can be pretty tough going but it iswell worth the effort. You can always tell the work of a genius because it illuminates the landscape and shows us things we have never seen before. I design games for a living and this book rocks! Hackenbush, Nimbers, games with 1/2 move advantage. Well illustrated. ONLY PROBLEM: Where are volumes 2-4?

Do not buy this! Next to useless. The illustrations are printed in black and white but they are only understandable in colour. Imagine a book on checkers, chess or go where all the illustrated pieces were grey.

I tried reading this book, but honestly it was pretty nonsensical. There is too much breadth at the expense of depth. It feels like every game is just glossed over and the structure of the book varies greatly and every game seems to handled differently. I was reading this book to learn about combinatorial game theory, but I feel as if I got nothing substantial out of reading this book. I was looking for a textbook style learning material, but this felt more like a brochure about math games

I brought this book as a reference to relearn how to quad skate as an adult at my local roller rink. Provides great information on skating techniques and the safe proper way to roller skate. I wish I had this book when I was a kid ! I highly recommend it.

This book is excellent for the beginner, or someone brushing up on forgotten abilities.The illustrations are particularly helpful. I found this book to be more helpful than watching a bunchof supposedly instructional videos, The price is a joke! Buy it.

Great book on basic skills - although if you are looking for more complex information on transitions, etc., you may need to look further!

Too little information about inline skating

The book is easy to follow and gives great tips. A very small investment for a lot of fun. You won't be disappointed.

These volumes are excellent for those who are beyond beginner status but not yet "grizzled" expert. In other words, one who is comfortable with buying grade "A" leather and making the sheaths with little waste. Likewise, I would not recommend for the beginner unless one is adept at tooling, dyeing, cutting, skiving, sewing, template usage, pattern making,etc.Knowledge of tools and techniques are essential in making the sheaths. For instance, the first project, The Mexican Loop Sheath, is somewhat complex. 29 materials and 24 tools are necessary for the project- although veteran leathercrafters probably might use fewer materials and tools depending on the level of expertise. However, I would take seriously the ability to use the plastic templates for measuring and drawing, as well as having elementary arithmatic skills. As metal and woodworkers know, correct measurements count. Leathercrafting is no exception. And every leathercrafter beyond the beginner level knows, a slight mm or inch off makes quite a difference in the project's finished appearance. But eventually when one feels comfortable using tools as an extension of one's hand, project's like this become less complex, and quite enjoyable. I love making sheaths because I love the huge variety of knives available. And if one is or decides to become a knife maker, making sheaths is an added benefit. Actually, it can become quite a lucrative enterprise, such as making custom sheaths for COS players, outdoorsman, collectors- and of course repairing sheaths is a viable side business itself. The best part of these volumes are the photo-illustrations, presented as one is walked through each project; and the respect the authors give to the readers by not becoming needlessly or overly "wordy", but staying within the technical parameters of using jargon and terms understood by the average knowledgeable leathercrafter. I'm looking forward to Volume 4. These books are very leathercrafter-friendly, and I'd recommend all volumes as an addition to your library as a fast and valuable resource. Enjoy and happy leathercrafting !.

With two days to prep with my son and his fiancée, we put together a meaningful and satisfying very small wedding. I officiated. Not exaggerating: I could not have done it without this book. Now that I have done one, I feel well prepared to officiate for just about anyone. The book has many samples of ceremonies, a variety of texts suitable for religious (primarily Christian) couples and others for nonreligious couples, some pop culture quotes, and practical suggestions. We used bits and pieces of all that material plus original texts and some ideas from our families' traditions and came up with something unique that reflected their personalities, values, and interests. Great investment! Four stars is only because I think with more editing the organization of the book could have been tighter and easier to use. But it is easy to use, don't get me wrong!

Whether you are religious, spiritual or indifferent, or whether you are a heterosexual or same-sex couple (which we are) this book is a wonderfully helpful place to start to create your wedding ceremony. We read through the book, (Kindle Version) highlighted the verses/blessings/sayings that we liked, then we took everything that we liked and printed them on to index cards by section of the ceremony and then narrowed it down again to the ones that we really liked and then we edited the verses even further to our own liking and to something that was really fitting for us as a couple. Here is a hot tip: I ended up buying a second version of this book on iBooks because you can email yourself all the highlighted entries though iBooks and then I just copied and pasted all the sections we like into MS Word (or similar) and then printed everything thing on to index cards.

This was one of the books I purchased to help make script writing easier for me as an officiant. It offers step-by-step instructions, practical guidance for a variety of ceremonies (ranging spiritual to secular), and has many wonderful quote suggestions. The couple was able to thumb through this book and pick their favorite of each script component, which simplified the process tremendously, and made it less stressful for everyone involved. I would recommend it, and know I will be returning to for future weddings.

I'm acting as the officiant for a friends wedding and this book is very easy to use for planning purposes. Not only does it help with all the different segments of the ceremony, it provides sample vows, etc. It is helpful both for people planning a religious service or people who are planning a secular service. If you are wanting a very traditional and/or conservative Christian ceremony, this book will still be helpful but more for process than variations on vows. The book skews towards a less traditional outlook, which is fine by me. I just thought I would point this out for those who might be looking for something conservative.

Through all the hub-bub of trying to pull together my wedding, and make it memorable and beautiful, I was really struggling. A friend told me about Dayna Reid and her new Do It Yourself Ceremony book, and WOW, what a difference! The book is so easy to understand and the way she itemizes all the different aspects of the wedding process, I don't know if I would have been able to really pull it off had it now been for this book. IT IS AMAZING!!! I highly recommend this book for brides to be everywhere, whether you are getting married this year, or its not even for a few years... it is great tool to put your own signature and flair on what should be THE most important day of your life!! I am going to be buying a bunch of them as gifts for some of my single friends as well as the ones that are planning to take the plunge soon. AWESOME AWESOME !!! 5 Stars!!!

I conducted a ceremony for the first time last month (June 2015), and this provided to be an invaluable aid. I had initially wanted to write a wedding ceremony from scratch, but it was daunting to create it whole cloth. Not only did this book lay out traditional and non-traditional wedding ceremony formats and actions, but it also provided multiple examples of text and quotes to use for religious, spiritual, and secular ceremonies.So, while I still created a unique and personalized experience for the wedding party, using this for ideas and inspirations relaxed me and allowed my creativity to flow. It destroyed the "power of the white."Whether you are yourself an officiant or are planning a wedding, I can't recommend this more highly.My officiating was a resounding success, by the way.

I've found this to be a great resource for building our non-religious ceremony. Lots of different options to choose from and the book is well organized.I'd suggest sitting down with your fiance and reading through it together. It might seem like a lot, and you might have to break the whole thing into multiple sessions, but I feel like its worth the time. Use a pen, underline the sections you like and come back through later to make the final decisions.

This wonderful little book has everything you need to know about writing a ceremony script that wows...plus more. I highly recommend this book for the new and not so new officiant.

I like this publisher's books.I was pleased to find a book on Grasses that I know little about.I enjoyed the text and the distribution maps.The photos were only OK.Grass is difficult to photograph well. Either a small part is in focus , or there is movement blur etc.I continue to use ::OkavangoAs my first port of call. True it doesn't really cover this area, but I think it's grass photography is better and ups ales Ok on my IPad Kindle. The photos in the book under review often do not upscale well-- it brings out any weakness in the photographyI am pleased town both books and will be using both

The book is really good - the digital download is weak - the photographs are tiny and of very poor resolution.
